I fell in love to easily in youth
saw invitations in each nod and smile
and fooled myself that wishing was the truth
and travelled far while hoping all the while.
"Just be yourself," my father tried to say
"the right partner will come along in time,"
But time does not keep passion's rise at bay
and "waiting for the one" was not in mine.
Instead I sought such love as I could get
from nameless men behind the Cricket hut
who paid me well for mastery of my art
then went home to their wives in squalor shut.
Now in maturity I find love true
and pledge myself for all my life to you.
