Torbay

as the crows tease the waves

sun-brightened clouds

Give orders that flags shall fly half-mast

in honour of a gentle man who passed

a president of the United past

a courageous legacy will surely last.

And though the latest holder of that post

will rail against such social-conscious acts;

let's not become a sycophantic host

who stoop to lick his arse and beg for scraps.

Already, Trump has put his tuppence worth

against this democratic English soil

for parliament dissolved by Charles the Third

and wind turbines be banned for U.S. Oil.

 If the past has aught left us to teach

 it is to the curb the greed of national reach.
