too expensive in the supermarket
American tariffs

a visit from my love, as time permits
betwixt the grandchild and her aching jaw
a cup of tea and catch-up chat, she sits
upon the study chair and opens more
letters from her pension fund which offer
bonus sums if taken later on in life
but she would rather it be soon, her coffers
no more flush with self-employment strife.
She tunes in to a call from her new girl
while I, with hunger, make a pan of soup
and listen to her tales of ribbon-skirted swirl
and poly-am relationships in group.
And all too soon she leaves, for London bound
and leaves me here, my love forever found.
