too tired
to play at fighting lions;
decline to spar.

At sixty-two, I am too old to hide
my face; pretend I am akin to those
who, fellow travellers of life, have tried
to mask existence of my tribe and chose
to blame the ills of modern life on trans
and queers and those of lower status than
they perceive themselves to be and make the bans
of protestation into law. They can
pretend oppression is not applied
to those who dare to voice opposing thoughts;
deny with absolute conviction that they lied
and bury evidence that could land them in court.
Now our right to freely speak for Palestine
has been denied because Israeli funds still flow like wine.
