No, it's the dog.

In my youth I had no chance to contact
those with gender issues in the worldly mire
and my parents did flatly refuse to act
upon their darling son's preferred attire.
My devout Catholic mother asked a priest
to show me kindness and mentor my mess
but not her wisest choice, to say the least:
to put trust in a man who wore a dress.
He instilled in me a profound sense of shame -
that how I felt was devils in my skin -
an altar boy, I could repent the blame
and on the path to righteousness begin.
But discoveries I made behind the altar
ultimately caused such faith to falter.
