Sonnet to a Lump of Green Putty
Sunday evening and armed with tape cassette
and dad's working old valve radio
and tuned to Radio Four, impatient yet
excited for my favourite seventies show.
The Journey of the Sorcerer's plucked strings
ramped up the atmosphere in my bedroom
and as I started tape recording, wings
of Eagles wrapped me in a warm cocoon.
One bar of an electric fire and quilt
to keep me warm for thirty minutes tops
with homework set for later on, no guilt
from me until the programme broadcast stops.
Then press the cassette tab to keep for me
