Home Cooking
Dinner on Sunday was roasted meat
with crisply roasted spuds and garden veg
though in my youth I could not face to eat
the lamb or pork or beef from butcher's ledge.
On Monday we'd have mince from roast remains;
Tuesday bone-broth frozen garden stew
Wednesday was faggots made from Brains
Thursday saus and mash a welcome view.
Fish and chips on Friday was tradition
(fish fingers for the child who hated bones)
No meat freed us from Catholic perdition
and confessions at the church us to atone.
Saturday was meat-paste sarnies, please,
or beans on toast with fresh white bread and cheese.
