The Folly of Confidence
Worm's Head, a rite of passage for the Gower,
when low tide brings the causeway into play
where careful scrambling for many an hour
to reach the outer head by end of day.
And back, of course, but through the middle part
one can take the gentler route around the pools
I chose instead to cross the jagged sharps
that walk against the sky above the fools.
I step across a pit a meter wide
that drops down thirty feet to raging sea
but lose my footing and fall deep inside
and crash upon my back, and broken, be.
I'm sure I'll be alright and be found soon
before the ocean rises with the moon.
