as I lift the winter covers
gathered bounty

Insomniac
an argument
about wrapping paper
saved 'just in case'
someone gives him a belated gift
and he has to give one back.
in a corner
between the wall and the window
he is curled inside a sheet
waiting for the change to come;
a metamorphosis
into a better human being.
I speak to him kindly;
'better' is subjective'
and we love you
just as you are.
