Haiga - WOTD - waylay

waylay \WAY-lay\, transitive verb:
1. To lie in wait for and attack from ambush.
2. To approach or stop (someone) unexpectedly.

At the station she
waylaid weary commuters
with her miming skills.

That word makes me wonder how it ever came about - way + lay....hmmmm

My shoe of the day: A sandal with a heel and mesh over the toe with three flowers on it and an ankle strap. 1930's. No...don't think this one is for me either.

Waylay comes from way (from Old English weg) + lay (from Old English lecgan).
