Great texture and the blue snow shadows in the shade of the trees :)

I wish I could capture the school-room smell of them!

A path well worn and well used.

I love the bits of bark and dirt showing through the snow. I would find that very enticing if I came across it.

Are they known as Pencil Cedars? And why?

thanks Aims.

They're known as Pencil cedars because they were originally used almost exclusively to make pencils out of. Juniperus virginiana - Wikipedia

Yep school rooms, nuns, and the cranky pencil sharpeners that reduced a pencil to nothing so quickly. Hated going up front to sharpen the classes pencils - often got clipped on the ear by the nuns for overdoing it. But the smell - it was good :)) Funny how you brought that back - convent days

Not a convent school here but a Catholic girl's school -- taught by nuns as well :)
