poetry 2017 / 051

via NaPoWriMo

here is our prompt. Because today is the ninth day of NaPoWriMo, I’d like to challenge you to write a nine-line poem

Threatened by Rain

Rhubarb stretches out spring leaves
freshly purple, veins throbbing
as they fill with sap, throwing shade
onto crocus and morning violets,
crowding out the sun, the rain
bringing death to bulb and shoot alike.
“Eat my leaves” the seem to say,
“succulent and delicious.” The poisoned
will nourish the roots of generation.
