12th April 2020

sunshine and birdsong
(though the weather's due to change)
garden seeds, sprouting

a few hours of digging
leaves my back scarlet
in flipping April, I ask you.
Who'd have thought of
summer heat in April
but at least I blocked the rat holes;
cleared away the brambles,
the self-seeded ash trees
and the bloody sycamores.
Just a ton of soil to dig out
and raised beds to tend to.
But oh! My fucking back
and my sun-blistered shoulders.
