a thought hits you;
affects everything.
The depictions of martyred saints
in paintings, sculpture, engravings
are all so buff.
No wonder Catholics
grow up to be gay;
homoerotic imagery
from such an early age;
Sebastien pierced with arrows;
David's finely chisseled abs;
Jesus moaning in a 'little death.'
The ecstasy of suffering
as a metaphore for living well.
