overcast sky
chasing a sparrow fledgling
a cat in our garden

under a leaden sky
a bee gathering pollen
from the rich blue cornflowers
dashing between the downpours.
Old photographs fading with time
bleaching like my memories.
Was my childhood really a series of ochres
or have my memories been seduced
by the fading of Kodachrome?
The doll's house you made is in the loft;
home to dried bluebottles and dust
and the drifting sand from old mortar.
You're dust too, scattered in an untended garden;
an entry in a Book of Remembrance
no-one ever looks at.
