damp and dreary
he chooses solitude
long Covid

Lupins
along the long flight of steps
to the fowlpen.
Cornflowers on the crazy paving patio;
beloved by ants and honeybees.
My mother's roses in the roadside bed,
my father's collections of fuschias and dahlias,
and the scent of an ever-present bonfire,
smouldering in a corner of the orchard.
These are the memories of love
my parents instilled in me.
