with age comes changing taste in mind's pursuit
which alter youth's perceptions do I find
for those programmes which I adored, in truth,
no longer humorous, but seem unkind.
Rewatching massive guardians of youth
can underscore a lack of human grace
societal embarrassment, uncouth
to this enlightened modern era's face.
Four seasons of "Not the Nine O'clock News"
can from my list of youthful loves depart;
as can classic "Steptoe and Son," reviews
do underline the racist, British heart .
And speak ne'er again of seventies shows
which demonstrate our homophobic woes.
