I've never been one for prints--
at least,
not since I was a teenager
and hung Athena posters in my bedroom:
illustrations by Roger Dean, Valheya,
and Rodney Matthews; then I studied art
and my walls were plastered with copies
of masterpieces and museum prints.
Than, as an artist, I gained access to student work,
cut-price paintings, etchings, sculptures
and never looked back.
Now I buy a print for the first time in forty years
Rothko's "Red on Maroon"
and I wish I'd remained a painter.
