Aunt Audrey and Uncle Jimmy
drove down to see us one summer;
a return trip for all the times
Mum went to Newcastle for them.
Their car died on the way
and they had it towed to our house
where it slowly rusted on the drive.
I was allowed to listen to the 8-track;
VaL Doonican, over and over,
until the car battery died
and everyone got cross with me.
Maybe that's why my first two cars
were Allegros like Uncle Jimmy's.
