as a kid
our home phone
had just four numbers.
easy to remember
with all the tricks
of ringing three times and stopping
so Dad knew it wasn't his work;
rejected reverse charge calls from
"Dad-I'm-at-the-station"
and keeping the phone in a locked room
so the kids couldn't rack up a bill.
Now I have nightmares
about trying to remember numbers
if I ever lost my smartphone.
