a little sunshine
in the early morning
woken by barking

I don't need ashes
to remember my love for companions.
Mum's cremains in Tardebigge -
I only looked for her marker once and never found it;
Dad's scattered at the crematorium
without any of us present;
three cats buried under the apple tree;
Holly long gone,
and Jester in a grave under a warehouse.
We kept Bear's ashes,
Jack and Trickster
and now Moos. It's time
to scatter them and let them go free.
