damp morning

two dogs waking me up

dark rain

petrol engines, diesel fumes;

lorries and busses belching oil;

people smoking and vaping in the street;

landlords and councils allowing damp

and mould to cover bedrooms;

the lady at number eighty-two

who still has coal delivered

and sends sulphurous fumes into the street;

factories and power stations

but sure: lets fine people burning wood

to keep themselves warm this winter;

let the narrowboat dwellers and the travelling folk

freeze to death. They're poor anyway

and no loss to the Tories.
