close mist
blanketing the streets
silence

stick figures on the bedroom wall
whispering threats of death
and partial dismemberment.
She can't sleep, tries, fails
and her husband assures her
"they're just the shadows of branches"
but she knows full well
you dont get tree shadows
with the curtains closed.
