was a friend until he wasn't
siding with the bigger boys
against the ginger-haired kid.
Nobody cared that I was isolated
and alone in the playground
as long as they weren't the one
subjected to isolation.
Funny how life repeats itself
with the anti-transgender movement
as a smokescreen for politicians
to feel righteous about something.
