Lucifer
the dutiful servant
formulates a question
as he moves a chess piece.
If Heaven encompasses all of creation,
where did you come from, Father?
There must have been a somewhere else
before Creation.
God laughs and moves his sorcerer
to take the angel’s bishop.
That’s a good question.
I am God, yes?”
Lucifer nods
wonders why he has no knowledge of a chess piece called a sorcerer
when there is quite clearly one on the board.
Yes, Lord. Obviously you’re God.
Exactly so.
God sits back.
Your move.
