an X-ray of a child's skull
shows an unusual case of dentistry;
there are too many teeth.
Below the loosened infant teeth
are two complete sets of adult ones
plus a few spares
a kaleidoscope in monochrome
with teeth at all angles
from an absorbed twin.
Extraction under general anaesthetic
in a mobile dental lorry
my mother holding my hand
as I sneeze blood over her dress.
