mist
the vanishing sounds
of missing eggs

gliding down from morning mist.
In the shadow of its wingspan
a garden rat takes cover
tribal memory triggered
by the prophecy of dark shadows.
Outside the nearby pizza shop
a fox slinks into cover,
lip curled against the hiss
of the upstairs cat.
