my father rode a motorbike
a 'fifty-eight BSA two-fifty
with a distinctive engine sound
and our old dog could hear it
from a couple of miles away,
running to wait for him
at the driveway gate
and ten minutes later, he'd arrive and stop,
where she'd jump up to the petrol tank
and get a thirty yard ride back.
