how my parents got her,
I have no idea, but Shane
(female) was a terrier-whippet cross
with a beautiful nature.
my sister bred rabbits
which she sold for pocket money
and would let them loose in the back garden
where Shane would watch over them
and herd them away from the flower beds.
I don't know why I dreamed of her;
I was nine or ten when she died,
but she was alive and healthy in my head
despite the passing of fifty years.
I wonder if anyone would dream of me
fifty years after I have gone
and let me live again,
if just for a moment.
