home-made curtains
over both door to the living room;
plastic sheeting over a single-pane,
steel-framed picture window
to keep out the cold.
An open fire and my dad's cigarette smoke;
as we watched the choreographed dances
of old men in wrestler's spandex.
you did your best but I'm almost surprised
we even survived childhood.
