Temporary Friend
Michael Pemberton, who on Blythesway lived
had parents who were raised with games of skill
and kept a cupboard in which boardgames hid
but not the ones in every house and mill.
Games I had never even seen
The London Game and The Great Fishing Match
occupied and filled a Sunday afternoon
although I was not allowed to catch
a snack or meal or even stay to tea
except for once when mother was away
to have a needed hysterectomy
where egg and chips was made to sooth my day.
After which we went to separate schools
and never did we meet again (Mom's rules.)
