it's not even Hallowe'en

All Hallow's Eve
Yet comes another annual scary night
wherein we cower within darkened rooms
so fearful of the tiny demons out
who with but a simple knock will bring us doom.
Our dogs will bark and bend our injured ears
to inform us of the evil lurking just
behind the door. The sum of all our fears
are nothing like the terror that we must
confront the horror of the passing year
where once we were the house with full-sized bars
of name-brand chocolates to pass to dear
and costumed kids with trick-or-treating jars.
For now we can't afford to buy the sweets
they seek and turn off lights to deter such meets.
