Saturday evening
the living room
encased in layers of tobacco smoke
with the footie results.
My dad, pen in hand
and a copy of the weekly Pools
marking off the no-score draws.
He has no system;
watches no matches;
just hopes his weekly two-and-six
will net him a respite
from perpetual poverty.
