I've been challenged by D J Kirkby to tell six truths and one lie about myself. One of these is not the same:

1. I have been telling stories since I was four.
2. I have a degree in Fine Art from the Tower of Art
3. I write four seperate blogs a day
4. I have a dozen tattoos
5. I'm handfasted to and live with two people at once
6. I have more erotica in print than I do Harold and Jasfoup stories
7. After graduating from my degree I worked as a street cleaner in Wolverhampton.

- Tea. I love tea. Usually Ringtons, in a china mug. We were on holiday last week and the dear lady who owned the cottage we were renting left me one of her grandmother's gold-rimmed china cups for my tea -- she remembered how particular i was about china.

- Books. I have too many and I keep buying more.

- Angels and Demons. Not the Dan Brrown tosh but the whole mythology ot the elohim

- Writing. I get panicky if I'm not writing, and if I don't write I get lazier and lazier.

- My dog(s). Trickster's mine, though I adore Jack and Mr. Bear too.

1. Which words do you use too much in your writing?
smiling, shrugged, grinned, burbleflipped and other 'actions while talking'.

2. Which words do you consider overused in stuff you read?
adverbs and adjectives. I don't need to know the horror was 'dark and coldly calculating'

3. What's your favourite piece of writing by you?
a short piece about the Four Horseman that I sell again every time the rights revert to me.

4. Which blog post do you wish you had written?
the ones that garner 10,000 page views and corresponding book sales.

5. Regrets. Do you have a few? Is there anything you wish you hadn't written?
I'd have liked 'An Ungodly Child' to have some publicity from the publisher, and another line edit before printing. I look back on some of the work I've had published and think 'that was rubbish' but if I hadn't written it I wouldn't be writing as well as I do now.

6. How has your writing made a difference? What do you consider your most important piece of writing?
I think it's brought smiles to a few faces. Nothing I write is important.

7. Name three favourite words
serendipity, contract, published

8. ....And three words you're not so keen on
profanities - they show lazy speech patterns

9. Do you have a writing mentor, role model or inspiration?
successful satirists - Pratchett, Gaiman, Iain Banks

10.What's your writing ambition?
I would like to earn enough as an author to pay my bills.

After searching long, I am content.

Marry, Snog or Chuck?

Sarah, over on the Novel Racers wrote the following:

I am sure most of you will have heard of the game "Marry, snog, chuck off a cliff" where you chose a celeb you would marry, one you would snog and one you would cheerfully chuck off a cliff or other high point. As we are all writers I thought I would do a different take on it for today's coffee morning.

So my questions for you today are these:

1. Which book do you wish you had written?
   
2. Which book do you really regret reading?
   
3. Which author do you admire, either for the wonderful work they have written or the fact they seem to be doing well out of writing total tripe?
   
4. What book would you like to find in your stocking/under the tree this year?
   

I though my answers would be of interest to several readers as well as the other racers so here are mine:

1.Kate Atkinson's Human Croquet. This was so close to what I wanted to write for 'Halcyon Days' that I ended up changing the whole plot of mine so that it was nothing like hers.

2.Annie Sanders' Busy Woman Seeks Wife I honestly thought this was going to be a lesbian romance. Readable, certainly, but nothing out of the ordinary.

3. Neil Gaiman. My favourite writer, I think, though I haven't read all of his books yet. I hope my books have the otherworldly sparkle that his urban fantasies do.

4. Stephanie Weeks' Triplex Coniunctio. My blog-partner and one of my favourite writers. Getting this is unlikely as it's out of print.
